    THINKING ABOUT CHANGING YOUR MAJOR?
Students seeking to transfer to the Human Development and Family Studies department should schedule an appointment with the department’s academic advisor. Please request a “change of major” advising appointment. The best method of contact is via email:

    WHO IS MY ADVISOR?
If you are unsure who your academic advisor is you can view your Degree Works for that information. In the top section, at the bottom of the second column, you will see the “advisor” section. If you click on your advisor’s name, you can email them directly from DegreeWorks.

HOW TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR ADVISOR OUTSIDE OF THE DEPARTMENT ADVISING PERIOD?
    • The best method of scheduling an appointment with your advisor is to contact your advisor through email.
    • If your advisor is unavailable and you have a general question you may contact the department’s academic advisor or contact student services at email hesstudentservices@ches.ua.edu or call 205-348-6150.

Frequently Asked Questions for Advising and Registration
Always include your CWID in emails to UA officials and use your @crimson email account.
It is the student’s responsibility to make sure they are advised and registered within a timely manner. Delaying advising and/or registration may result in necessary classes being full.

Academic Calendar – Every semester, all students should check the academic calendar for important dates (e.g., last day to drop a class):

Registration Times are posted at least two weeks before registration begins. Go to the “Student” tab on myBama. Under the "Academic Services" box, click on "Registration Status" and select the term. Your specific date and time for registration should display.

DegreeWorks – All students should review their DegreeWorks every semester and before advising. For help and tutorials with DegreeWorks:

How do I schedule an appointment with my advisor?
Help! I’m having issues with registering for a class.
What if I have questions regarding financial aid, scholarships, or other financial matters?
What if I want to take a course somewhere else to transfer in?

    REMINDERS

**Be prepared and DO NOT miss your appointment.

    • Make a tentative schedule. Click here for major check sheets or visit Student Services in 206 Doster Hall.
    • Make a list of questions or concerns.
    • If you would like to change your major, you may do so in myBama under the Student tab.

**If you have earned 80 hours or more, you will receive a graduation checkout form from your advisor. If you have completed this form before, it is not necessary for you to complete it again. This form is used to check you out for graduation, so it is VERY IMPORTANT.

**If you are planning to graduate, you will need to complete an application for degree. Your application for degree should be completed the semester before you graduate. Apply for your degree in myBama, under the Student tab.

**If you are taking classes at a community college or another university this summer, plan ahead. Go to mybama.ua.edu and complete the transient letter under student services. Instructions have been provided in the General Advising Links list below for your convince.
